American Association of Poison Control Centers Accreditation
The West Texas Regional Poison Center was most recently accredited for the third time by the American Association of Poison Control Centers in 2007.  Re-accreditation is required every 5 years.  Accreditation requirements are stringent and require Poison Centers to provide quality and accurate poisoning information and treatment recommendations 24 hours a day to healthcare professionals and the general public.  All services are provided by specially trained Certified Specialists in Poison Information (CSPI) which are Nurses, Pharmacists, or Physicians that have passed the Certification Examination administered by the American Association of Poison Control Centers.  All of our WTRPC staff has been certified by the AAPCC.

15 Year Anniversary
The West Texas Regional Poison Center received an award from the Commission on State Emergency Communications (CSEC) for completing its 15th year of service to the West Texas area and the entire State of Texas in September of 2009.

Binational Border Health Week Grant Award
In 2005 the West Texas Regional Poison Center received a grant from the United States-Mexico Border Binational Health Week Resources and Development Committee to fund an interactive computer based exhibit with touch screen technology for children of all ages.  This exhibit, know as the TOX BOX, provides children an interactive learning kiosk to help them learn about the dangers of household poisonings in a fun-learning and modern environment.  Children get the opportunity to play interactive games that will test their poison prevention knowledge and teach them how to be poison safe.  The exhibit is available during normal business hours at the El Paso Insights Science Museum.
