Funding
The West Texas Regional Poison Center (WTRPC) located in El Paso, Texas, is primarily funded by state and federal grants. Local philanthropic support is also very important for our poison center services and educational activities. Poison Centers not only save lives, they save money. By treating 80% of the callers to our poison hotline at home, Poison Centers are able to prevent costly and unnecessary ambulance dispatches and transportation costs and unnecessary emergency room expenses to both the caller and the communities’ tax payers. Specifically, for every $1 spent on poison control center services, communities save $7 to $9 in unnecessary healthcare costs. The WTRPC alone has generated over $50 million in total cost savings since 1995.
With the current national and state economic levels in dire strain, poison center funding is neither assured nor sufficient to provide quality poison center services 24 hours a day to the entire state of Texas. That is why your donation is more important than ever. Your donation will assist us to continue to provide quality poison prevention education and printed materials for the West Texas region. Please consider making a donation by clicking on the link below and selecting your donation be directed to the West Texas Regional Poison Center.
