Investigación

El West Texas Regional Poison Center (WTRPC) participa activamente en estudios e investigaciones clínicas y científicas.  El desarrollo de nuestro Departamento de Especialidad en Toxicología en cooperación con la Escuela de Medicina Paul L. Foster de la Universidad de Texas Tech nos proveerá mayores oportunidades para desarrollar nuestra capacidad en esta área.  Las siguientes más recientes publicaciones y estudios de investigación son disponibles solamente en ingles:

 

Pruebas Clínicas y Estudios de Investigación en curso:

  • A Phase III Multicenter Clinical Trial of Analatro [Antivenin Latrodectus (Black Widow) Equine Immune F(ab)2] in Patients with Systemic Latrodectism. A multi-center Phase III trial of a new antivenin for Black Widow Spider bites.  It is in the final stage of testing before it is reviewed for approval by the FDA.
  • A Comparison of Anavip® [Crotalinae (pit viper) equine immune F(ab)2] and Crofab® (Crotalinae Polyvalent Immune Fab, ovine) in the Treatment of Patients with Crotalinae Envenomation: A Randomized, Prospective, Blinded Controlled, Comparative, Multicenter Study. This is a multi-center Phase III trial of a new antivenin for Crotalinae (rattlesnakes, copperheads, cottonmouth snakes) envenomation.  It is in the final stage of testing before it is reviewed for approval by the FDA.
  • Surveillance of the RADARS System by Poison Control Centers. The RADARS study is a multi-center project that monitors trends in prescription drug abuse.

  • Prospective clinical trial of efficacy and safety of FAB-fragment based Latrodectus antivenom in patients with systemic Latrodectism. A Phase II clinical trial studying the safety and effectiveness of a new antivenom for Black Widow spider bites.
  • Retrospective evaluation of local and coagulopathy recurrences associated with antivenom therapy for Crotaline snakebite.  A multi-center retrospective chart review of rattlesnake bites evaluating for the recurrence of toxicity after receiving antivenom therapy.
  • U.S. - Mexico Border 2012 Program - Binational Tracking Network for Environmentally Related Diseases Paso del Norte Region - Phase II. This study was a pilot project that helped to initiate the development of a bi-national environmental public health tracking network.
