Gilbert Parra graduated from Clint High School in 1968.  He joined the Armed Forces as a Medic in the Navy in 1970.  He left the Navy in 1974 to pursue his education.  He obtained a Bachelors of Science Degree in Pharmacy from the University of Houston in 1982 and a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree in Pharmacy from University of New Mexico in 2005.  He worked here in El Paso at Walgreens Pharmacy and was a Pharmacy Manager from 1983 to 1995.  He went to work for Walmart as a staff Pharmacist in 1995. 

He was hired at the West Texas Regional Poison Center as a Specialist in Poison Information in November of 1995.  He became a Certified Specialist in Poison Information in 1996.  He has been a preceptor for PharmD Interns from the University of Texas at Austin, University of Houston, Texas Southern University, University of New Mexico, and Creighton University.  He was selected by his students as the PharmD Preceptor of year for El Paso in 2002 and the PharmD Preceptor of the Year for the State of Texas in 2003. 

He is an active member of the Texas Pharmacy Association and is fluent in both English and Spanish.
